Kayla Platt
FOUNDER/LEAD TEACHER
I have spent the past 6 years building community in the Treasure Valley through hosting a weekly Wild + Free based nature group and leading an outdoor based co-op. The Idaho Outdoor School is the culmination of my deep desire to serve both my family and community. I am lucky enough to have three wild children and an extremely patient and supportive husband. As a family we enjoy road tripping, game night, hosting as many people as will fit in our home and camping. Individually I'm all about starting projects I don't have time for, adding to a growing stack of books to read and squeezing in some quiet yoga time. Homeschooling has felt like the right choice for our family because of the freedom of our schedule, prioritizing sleep and movement and letting our children pursue their own path. I am beyond grateful to get to do this work and am so excited for what is in store for this school and the home educated children of Idaho.

Lacey
LEAD TEACHER
Lacey has a passion for getting kids muddy, curious, and connected to the wild world around them. Our very own Ms. Frizzle, she brings learning to life under the open sky where learning, play, and storytelling meet in unexpected ways. Homeschooling has been the perfect fit for her family- schedule flexibility, learning outdoors, and the freedom to learn in nontraditional ways that allow her children to thrive.
When she’s not leading her family through forests, rivers, and snowy trails, you can find her hiking before sunrise, snowshoeing through quiet winter woods, paddling a kayak across glassy lakes, sleeping in backcountry yurts, or soaking in a hot spring under the stars. She’s a firm believer that the best days often start with sunscreen, water, and a semi-flexible plan that might end up crumpled in the floor in favor of spontaneous adventures.
With a flair for the dramatic, a love for tie dye and black, and strong opinions about the lack of functional pockets in women’s clothing, Lacey brings authenticity, energy, and heart to everything she does, especially when it involves dirt, wonder, and a bit of sparkle.

Hannah
LEAD TEACHER
“Homeschooling my two girls became an unexpected passion of mine after I spent 4 years as a paraprofessional in special education. I’ve worked with kids on and off for the last 15 years and I am thankful for the opportunity to serve them once again!
My family and I love to try new adventures together and we love to bike and roller blade as a family. We camp every summer and make time to go fishing on the weekends.
I love to exercise, crochet all things cute, go hiking, and write. Homeschooling has truly given me the freedom to allow my kids to explore their passions and focus on their individual education. I am so excited to be able to educate fellow homeschoolers who love the outdoors and learning!”

Olivia
ASSISTANT TEACHER
After six years of teaching in public elementary and middle schools, I transitioned to homeschooling my two adventurous boys. I love the quality time we share, the curiosity sparked through hours of imaginative outdoor play, and the freedom they have to explore their individual interests. I am grateful that they get to simply be kids, wild, free, and full of wonder. Beyond homeschooling, I enjoy peaceful days by the water, sunlit hikes, runs in the fresh air, laughing with friends, and camping with my family. As a teacher at The Idaho Outdoor School, I consider it a true privilege to be part of each child’s unique learning journey.

Addison
ASSISTANT TEACHER
As a homeschool graduate who was free to pursue her own learning and interests, Addison was able to graduate a year early and is now taking online college courses. Her favorite subjects are English and history. As a lifelong learner, Addison enjoys taking opportunities to push herself outside of her comfort zone. She tried a variety of schooling types but by far enjoyed homeschooling because of the control it gave over what she wanted to learn and spend time doing.
In her free time, Addison loves all things arts and crafts and nature. She dabbles in sewing, painting, clay, recycling, and much more. She has a deep appreciation for nature and hopes to someday visit every national park. She has a special love for classic literature and reading, favorite books include The Lord of The Rings, Frankenstein, and anything Agatha Christi. She also loves antiques and repurposing old things into something new and usable.
As an oldest daughter with five siblings, Addison has been helping with kids for as long as she can remember. She has extensive child leadership skills from years of babysitting, nannying, and volunteering with teaching children. Addison loves free learning and believes strongly in working with kids to discover how they best learn and thrive. Helping and teaching kids has always been a dream of Addison’s, and being able to do it in a homeschool environment surrounded by nature is definitely the icing on the cake!
